From Demo to Deployment: Testing the ONE4ALL Robotic Solution for Madama Oliva

As part of the ONE4ALLproject consortium, the Innobotics team, is carrying out an advanced demonstration to validate the solution before deployment. The final installation will take place at Madama Oliva, oplant in Carsoli (AQ), a key partner and one of the project’s end users in the food sector. Known for its high-quality, Madama Oliva represents an ideal setting for the deployment of this solution, allowing us to test and showcase its effectiveness in a real-world, high-demand industrial environment.

To achieve this goal, Madama Oliva’s production environment has been recreated at Innobotics’ premises. This setup allows the technology to be tested under realistic industrial conditions before on-site deployment.

The solution:

The demo focuses on end-of-line (EOL) operations, where the robot’s task is to unload products from a tray previously prepared by the operators. Once the tray is emptied, the robot shall place it in a designated position/area to allow the operators to remove it, under safe conditions. In addition to the unloading operation, the robot will perform a quality control operation, verifying the expiration date of the products. It will separate valid items from expired or defective ones, ensuring that quality standards are met throughout the process.

This scenario presents challenges due to mixed product batches, frequent format changes, and stringent human–robot safety requirements. The entire robotic system has been designed with dedicated safety measures to ensure personnel protection, without compromising line productivity. These conditions are typical of many food packaging lines, making this setup an ideal testbed for real-world industrial environments. The demo highlights the robustness, modularity, and reconfigurability of the ONE4ALL solution, perfectly suited for everyday industrial operations.

At the core of the demonstration is an AI-powered robotic system designed to perform typical EOL tasks such as pick-and-place, handling, palletising, and inspection. In this setup, the robot must handle real packages and variable batches, mirroring the operational complexity found at Madama Oliva’s facilities. The robotic module is equipped with a camera mounted on the end-effector, enabling advanced object detection capabilities. This vision system allows the robot to recognise the position and orientation of trays and components—such as metallic plates—ensuring accurate and flexible manipulation even when the input conditions vary.

This pre-deployment validation is a key step toward achieving Technology Readiness Level 6 (TRL6). It demonstrates that the solution can operate reliably in a relevant industrial environment. Testing the system in advance at Innobotics’ facilities helps to identify and resolve potential issues early. As a result, risks are reduced and integration at Madama Oliva’s production line will be smoother.

A video published on the ONE4ALL YouTube channel showcases the demo setup. It also highlights the performance of the ONE4ALL robotic solution in a realistic end-of-line scenario inspired by Madama Oliva’s operations.
